Abstract
By histochemical technics, alkaline phosphatase activity in the duodenum, jejunum and kidney in the rat was examined at pH 8.6 and 9.2 with Na glycerophosphate, glucose-1-phosphate, fructose-l,6-calcium diphosphate and yeast nucleic acid for substrate. The effect of KCN,KF, mono-iodoacetic acid, phloridzin, Na glycocholate and Mg in the incubation solns. was studied. No substrate-specific reaction could be observed in normal prepns. KF, mono-iodoacetic acid, phloridzin and Mg caused no specific changes in the outcome of the reactions, either in the intestine or kidney. In the presence of KCN or Na-glycocho-late, substrate-specific and selective reactions could be seen in the intestinal epithelium at pH 8.6. Only selective reactions were observed in the kidney epithelium. At pH 9.2, selective, but no substrate-specific reactions could be demonstrated in the intestinal as well as in the renal epithelia. The occurrence of the histochemically demonstrable different phosphatase systems is discussed in view of the findings reported. Keywords
