Abstract
Increasing awareness of industrial noise pollution and the sparsity of published literature on noise control of electric motors indicate the need for a comprehensive review of the problem as well as its solutions. Fundamental concepts of noise generation, propagation, and measurement are presented and historic limits are referred to. Specific electrical and mechanical noise sources are discussed as are source and transmission control measures. Several illustrative numerical samples are used. Definite electric motor noise classifications are proposed. Keywords
