Abstract
The CISK-mechanism is studied by means of an analytical model which allows for a simple discussion of the effect of different distributions of the diabatic heating. The model indicates that CISK may be of importance in polar air if the heating takes place in a shallow layer at low levels. DOI: 10.1111/j.1600-0870.1985.tb00439.xKeywords
