Abstract
To study disturbances in spermatocytogenesis in the boar, systematic qualitative and quantitative investigations of meiosis in normal boars have been carried out. In squash preparations of testicular tissue from young boars the somatic chromosome complement was examined. The chromosome number is 38, of which 6 pairs are telocentric and 12 pairs meta- or submetacentric. The X-chromosome is a medium-sized submetacentric and the Y-chromosome a small probably submetacentric. The course of meiosis is described and classified into 6 stages based on the metamorphosis of the chromatin and chromosomes respectively from spermatogonium to spermatid. Keywords
