Antibiotic Mixtures

Abstract
FOR several years, clinical investigators have been intrigued with the possibility of combining antibiotic drugs to enhance their therapeutic effects. It has been asserted that antibiotic mixtures should be used for their synergistic activity, to prevent the emergence of resistant micro-organisms and to increase the safety and tolerance of the drugs used. That these effects have been observed in isolated cases is well known. Recently, a new antibiotic combination has appeared for which the claim of synergism has been made. The present report deals with the inability to demonstrate, in vitro, the claim of synergism advanced for this combination, tetracycline . . .
