Abstract
Ongoing environmental education programs for preschoolers are scarce. Those that do exist tend to be affiliated with either early childhood education settings or environmental education settings. A study was done to locate ongoing environmental education programs for preschool children and to identify the nature and characteristics of such programs. A total of 12 programs were identified; 9 were included in this study. Two different approaches were used for data collection: site visits and a written survey. Findings suggest that ongoing early childhood environmental education (ECEE) programs, regardless of setting, tend to share many common characteristics. They also tend to serve primarily children from White, middleclass backgrounds. Keywords
