Abstract
The AOAC official, first action method was slightly revised with regard to the density of the suspension of the organism used to contaminate the porcelain carriers and the addition of gelatin to the culture before maceration in the tissue grinder. Additional collaborative studies on 2 commercial germicides and on the pure chemical phenol showed that approximately one-half of the reporting laboratories were in good agreement. The method is recommended for adoption as official, final action.
