Peritoneal Transport of Antibiotics in Man

Abstract
PATIENTS undergoing peritoneal dialysis frequently require antibiotic therapy for intraperitoneal and systemic infections. Since information concerning transperitoneal movement of antibiotics is limited, drug dosage and route of administration in such patients are usually chosen empirically. Insufficient data are available to determine if antibiotic dosage should be supplemented by intraperitoneal therapy or increased because of removal of antibiotic in dialysate.The present study was undertaken to measure intraperitoneal concentrations of methicillin and tetracycline after systemic administration and conversely to determine serum concentrations of methicillin after intraperitoneal administration.Materials and MethodsPatients with chronic renal disease and azotemia requiring peritoneal dialysis were . . .
