Susceptibility of Rice Rats (Oryzomys palustris) to Schistosoma mansoni

Abstract
O. palustris and O. p. natator were exposed percutaneously to 150 and 250 cercariae of Schistosoma mansoni. Viable eggs of S. mansoni were first found in the feces 7-9 weeks after exposure. Egg passage continued until the termination of the expt. 41 weeks after exposure when the animals were sacrificed. The avg. worm recovery was 2.79% in the animals exposed to 150 cercariae and 1.71% in the animals exposed to 250 cercariae.
