IMMUNOSUPPRESSION AND CIRCULATING TRYPANOSOMA CRUZUI IN A KIDNEY TRANSPLANT RECIPIENT

Abstract
A case of T. cruzi parasitemia concurrent with a kidney transplant is described. The patient received cyclophosphamide at transplantation. Upon discovery of the parasitemia (13 mo. post-transplant) the patient was treated with 3-methyl-4-(5''-nitrofurfurylideno-amino)-tetrahydro-4H-1,4-thiazine-1,1-dioxide and prednisolone. The blood smear became negative and cylcophosphamide was resumed 40 days later.
