Abstract
A mathematical model that incorporates volume relaxation is applied to predict the development of the thermal residual stresses, for a generic polycarbonate, in a thin injection-molded strip cavity. The model assumes thermo-rheological/piezo-rheological simple viscoelastic material behavior in both the deviatoric and dilatational domains, Prony-series for both the shear-relaxation and dilatational-retardation functions, a modified Gibb's function for the shift factor of both the shear-relaxation and dilatational-retardation spectra. The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of volume relaxation, imposed lateral boundary conditions, and the average shear-relaxation and dilatational-retardation times on the developed residual stresses. Keywords
