Abstract
In the rat the antispermatogenic and anti-fertility effects of ethylene dimethanesulphonate (EDS) are associated with temporary involution of accessory glands. Using 4–14C-labelled progesterone it has been shown in vitro that marked and dose-dependent inhibition of testosterone synthesis occurred over a time range consistent with the duration of sterility. The results also indicated that the metabolism of pregnenolone and 17Α-hydroxyprogesterone are impaired.
