Abstract
It can be shown that, in using Haggqvist''s method, all nerves of the skin, the muscles, the viscera and the mixed nerves consist of 2 groups of fibers-a thicker and a thinner one. An index can be calculated which indicates the relation of the number of thin and thick fibers. The index refers to nerves of different peripheral endings; it is 2-3 in the cutaneous nerves, 0.7-1 in the nerves of muscles, 6 in the vagus and 12 in the splanchnic. The nerve fiber decreases in thickness at its distal end. The mixed nerves have an index of either that of cutaneous nerves or of that of the nerves to the muscles. Keywords
