Immune effector functions of eosinophils in allergic airway inflammation

Abstract
Eosinophils have the capacity to exert immune effector actions on the airways of asthmatic individuals by virtue of their ability to elaborate cytokines, chemokines and growth factors. The present review discusses cutting edge research on eosinophil cytokine release and its potential role in allergic airway inflammation. (C) 2001 Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.
