Abstract
The development of sequestering agents specific for high oxidation state cations such as Fe(III), Pu(IV), Ce(IV), V(IV), and V(V) is discussed. The similarities and differences of common bidentate binding subunits are reviewed. The thermodynamic properties of 2,3 dihydroxyterephthalamide ligating groups and hexadentate macrocyclic and macrobicyclic ligands containing these groups are presented. Recent ligand syntheses designed for specific complexation of Fe(III) and Pu(IV) are detailed. Unusual chemistry of high oxidation state metal ions is examined. Keywords
