Abstract
Teacher training institutions must be accredited to produce certifiable teachers, or else the teachers will have to be certified by the state's certification board. The question addressed by this article was: How much consistency is there between one accrediting agency's standards and various states' certification requirements? Since various authors have identified a multiplicity of competencies the teacher of the behaviorally disordered pupil needs, it would be anticipated that consistency for teacher training exists. Inconsistencies found in professional expectations lead to the conclusion that national professional standards for teachers of the behaviorally disordered should be developed and adopted.
