Resistance of Tobacco Introduction 1112 to the Tobacco Budworm and Green Peach Aphid123

Abstract
In field and laboratory tests, the mechanism of resistance to the tobacco budworm, Heliothis virescens (F.), in tobacco introduction (T.I.) 1112 (Nicotiana tabacum L.)was found to be nonpreference for oviposition. The mechanism of resistance to the green peach aphid, Myzus persicae (Sulzer), appeared to be a tendency for alate aphids to abandon T.I. 1112 more readily than fluecured tobacco. Trichogramma parasitized Heliothis eggs on T.I. 1112, and more coccinelids werc present on this line than on flue-cured tobacco. Nonglandular trichomes may contribute to the observed resistance.
