MAN TAN and similar preparations are being widely used to produce artificial tanning of the skin. The massive advertising program which claims they are safe has prompted this report of four cases of contact dermatitis from their use. Report of Cases Case 1.— A 47-year-old artist was using Man Tan as an after-shave preparation. After he was scratched on his right shoulder by a pet lion, he applied Man Tan as an antiseptic. He consulted a dermatologist 24 hours later because of an eruption in the area of the scratch. Upon examination, an erythematous, papular, vesicular eruption was noted around the area of the scratch; the eruption was confined entirely to the area of application of Man Tan, which was now well outlined by its brownish coloration of the skin.
