Radio survey of classical novae

Abstract
We report the first high-sensitivity radio survey of classical novae. A total of 26 objects were observed with the VLA at either 1.465 or 4.885 GHz. Of these, only two recent novae were detected, and the emission is probably thermal bremsstrahlung. Our results suggest that the non-thermal emission of the old nova GK Per is not a common characteristic of novae. We further conclude that classical novae are not a major contributor to the cosmic ray electron flux.
