Abstract
The emission and absorption of radiant energy in a nonhomogeneous flame is discussed. Multiple scattering is neglected and the solution of the basic one‐dimensional equation of transfer is obtained in series form. The series is rapidly convergent and a first term approximation yields a simple formula for a flame source having a plane of symmetry which gives satisfactory agreement with experimentally determined nonlinear spectrochemical calibration curves. Keywords
