Abstract
Two series of experiments were performed with varying doses of vitamin D. The degree of healing in each case was assigned a value according to Dyer''s scale and the curves which showed the average degree of healing to the dose of vitamin D were similar to Dyer''s curves. The results from these and Dyer''s exps. were divided into 3 groups, litters which developed "slight," "moderate" and "severe" rickets, and the curves for each group were used to estimate the vitamin D potency of a sample of fish meal. The results agreed with those obtained by the prophylactic method based on the percentage of ash in the dry fat-free bones. Changing the ratio Ca/P in Steenbock''s rachitogenic diet from 4:1 to 2:1 produced an antirachitic effect equal to that given by a daily dose of 0.7 unit of vitamin D, as evaluated by the curves. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
