Senescence from Reproduction

Abstract
We present results from Monte Carlo simulations of a modified “bit-string" model of Penna which show that ageing or senescence may be the result of reproduction over an extended period, as expected from mutation accumulation. This induces an effective form of antagonistic pleiotropy. We also obtain a double maxima in the distribution of the age at which death occurs. These results may be relevant to current theories of ageing
