Abstract
Yields of oxidized and reduced products from the radiolysis of aqueous solutions have been measured. It has been assumed that both H3O+(or H2O+) and e– can be trapped prior to hydration by using sufficiently high concentrations of appropriate solutes, e.g., anions for H3O+. By analogy with conventional kinetics, charge scavenging is assumed to compete with first-order hydration or recombination. Values G°(H3O+)=G°(e–) 3.8 have been obtained. Keywords
