Abstract
The content of thymol increased in the rhizomes and roots of Arnica parryi and A. sacchalinensis from 0,9 % to 7,8 % and 0,6°Io to 6,8 % of the essential oil depending on the duration of storage. In correlation with this a decrease of the content of isobutyl-thymyl ester is observed. Genuinely thymol seems not to be present or only in very small quantities in these Arnica-species. It was found that A. molli s is an exception to the other Arnica-species having been examined up to now, because it contains neither thymol nor isobutyl-thymyl ester, a main ingredient of the essential oil of Arnica-species.Keywords
