Abstract
Ovules of the eastern hemlock were dissected about the time of fertilization. Of 1877 ovules, 19 (1%) were found with 2 mature megaprothallia, each with the normal complement of 2-5 archegonia. Each group of paired prothallia was enclosed within one megaspore membrane. In an additional ovule, the 5 archegonia of the gametophyte were in a lateral po- sition, while 2 superposed archegonia were found in the pro-thallium of another. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
