Abstract
The main practical achievement of the “new” genetics is not a great leap forward in treatment but rather an enhanced understanding of the problems involved in devising effective therapies. These gains include a more rational classification of genetic diseases, a more detailed picture of their pathology, and a more precise definition of the interventions that may be possible.Keywords
