Abstract
Attempts at increasing the virulence of 4 non-invasive cultured strains of E. histolytica by inducing encystation before the inoculation into laboratory-bred white rats failed to alter either the infectivity or the invasiveness of the parasite. In another, highly virulent strain, there was no loss of infectivity but some loss of invasive ability was noted. It was concluded, therefore, that invasiveness must be independent of encystation but this is not necessarily true for infectivity. Keywords
