Abstract
This paper examines various previous findings and explores factors related to feelings of "missing work" after retiring by means of stepwise, multiple-regression analyses run separately among 262 preretirees and 341 retirees aged 60-75 in a Swedish sample. It was found that 55% of preretirees anticipated job deprivation, whereas 36% of retirees actually reported such feelings. In both groups, "missing work" was significantly related to favorable work orientation and reluctance to retire, a pattern found among both blue-and white-collar workers, and job deprivation was also positively associated with work orientation independently of the retirement attitude; no associations were found with age, sex, education, and residence. Keywords
