Abstract
A series of 3 : 4‐methylenedioxyphenyl compounds of graded complexity have been synthesized and tested for synergism with the pyrethrins against adult Black Fungus beetles, Alphitobius laevigatus. The results establish the minimal molecular requirements for such synergism and point to the methylene group as the seat of activity. The effects of stepwise modification of the minimal synergist molecule are considered in the light of current theories of the mode of action. Keywords
