Marine steroids. Part III. On the structure of marthasterone glucoside, from the starfish Marthasterais glacialis

Abstract
A 1H n.m.r. method based on the chemical shift of the 10-methyl protons is used to locate the position of the glucose residue in marthasterone 6α-glucoside, which is characterised as its penta-acetate, 3β-acetoxy-23-oxo-5α-cholesta-9(11),24-dien-6α-yl tetra-O-acetyl-β-D-glucoside (20). The 3β- and 6α-tetra-O-acetylglucosides of several model 5α-steroids are used to establish chemical shift relationships.
