Abstract
Twenty l-yr.-old plants of L. formosanum were treated by immersing the growing points in 1%, 0.6%, 0.4%, and 05% colchicine for 2 hrs. Terminal growth was inhibited for 6-8 weeks. During this time the terminal treated portion increased in diam. and small bulblets were formed in the axils of the leaves that were formed on this terminal region. These bulblets were removed and planted; 31 survived, 21 of which proved to be tetraploid as detd. from somatic chromosome counts of root tips. Those plants which bloomed had flowers averaging about 25% larger than on diploids. 6 of these plants were fairly fertile and more than 600 seedlings derived from the tetraploids are being grown. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
