Abstract
Adult male rats were injected with 1-6 mg. of ACTH daily by intermittent or continuous subcut. injn.; other rats were injected with cortisone at doses of 10 mg. daily. The brain extending from the olfactory bulbs to the posterior commissure was sectioned serially and stained with Nissl material. ACTH caused an involution of the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus. The animals injected with cortisone were in poor physical condition at autopsy and their brains were characterized by widespread chromatolysis and vacuolation in''the thalamic nuclei. Keywords
