Variations in the Amounts of 3', 5'-Cyclic AMP in Plant Tissues5

Abstract
Tissue concentrations of 3', 5'-cyclic AMP have been measured in soybean callus in liquid suspension. After transfer to fresh medium there was a sharp decline in cyclic-AMP concentration within 30 min. This effect was much reduced if sucrose was omitted from the new medium. The presence of cytokinin had no effect on the fluctuations observed during the 20 h immediately following subculture but after that time cytokinin tended to produce much higher concentrations of cyclic AMP. In Avena coleoptiles the application of auxin caused a sharp increase in cyclic-AMP concentration within 15 min. The amount of cyclic AMP in auxin-treated tissue remained higher than the values obtained for untreated samples over the next 3 h. Neither cyclic AMP nor N6, O2-dibutyryl cyclic AMP had any significant effect on the rate of coleoptile extension growth.
