Abstract
This is an important and interesting report to alert us of the changing epidemiology of multidrug-resistant (MDR) tuberculosis (TB). It is the first report to introduce the term XDR for TB that is extensively resistant (i.e. resistant to the less effective and more toxic second-line drugs as well as first-line isoniazid- and rifampin-based treatments).
