Abstract
The yearly discharge of chloride by rivers in Scandinavia and in the eastern USA is shown on two charts. The isochlor pattern strongly indicates the marine origin of chloride. From the composition of river, lake and ground water compared to rain water it is inferred that the salt in these are to a very great extent air borne. Keywords
