Evaluation of Bean Varieties for Resistance to Mexican Bean Beetle134

Abstract
One hundred forty-one snapbean, Phaseolus vulgaris L., and 20 lima bean, P. lunatus L., varieties were screened in the greenhouse for resistance to feeding by adult Epilachna varivestis Mulsant. Two methods, intact leaf and excised leaf, were used for initial screening. The variety ‘Regal’ (snap) was the least consumed by adult beetles followed by ‘Baby Fordhook’ (lima), and ‘Baby White’ (lima). A subsequent test with selected nrieties by the intact leaf method, and results of field evaluation confirmed these findings.
