Abstract
The carrier mobility in the smectic liquid crystal is studied as functions of the temperature and the applied field. The mobility decreases markedly with increasing applied field. This change of the mobility is associated with the memory like change of the light transmission, which remains for a long time after the removal of the applied field. These effects are explained satisfactorily by taking the realignment of the molecule axis by the electric field into consideration. Keywords
