Abstract
Modifications are suggested to the usual method of estimating Coulomb corrections to the ground-state binding energies predicted by shell-model calculations. The modified equations are then applied to d32/-shell and f72/-shell nuclei around mass 40. Parameters are deduced by comparison with measured Coulomb displacement energies, and Coulomb-corrected experimental ground-state binding energies are calculated. These can be compared directly with the predictions of shell-model calculations. Keywords
