Abstract
Duck hemolysate formed uro-, copro- and protoporphyrin when incubated with δ-aminolevulinic acid. The greater part of proto porphyrin was found in particulate fraction, corresponding to the localization of enzyme which acts on it, whereas the other porphyrins were in soluble fraction. With the aid of C14 ALA and C14 the particulate bound protoporphyrin was shown to be in corporated into heme in preference to free protoporphyrin. When solubilized with cholate, bound porphyrin was incorporated into heme almost equally with added free protoporphyrin. Judged from its behavior towards extraction, the protoporphyrin seemed to be bound to particulate fairly specifically.
