The Range of Normal Values in the Quality Control of Clinical Chemistry

Abstract
The method of determining the range of normal values described by Hoffmann is readily applied to the average hospital laboratory. Repeated determinations of these ranges of normal values using consecutive patient values shows essentially stable results if the reproducibility of the method is adequate. In addition to establishing the range of normal values for a specific laboratory, the method can be used to evaluate the long-term stability of results on patient specimens, particularly in the enzyme procedures where the stability of the test substance in the frozen serum pools is questionable.
