Measurement of Movement in Hip Joint Disease

Abstract
In earlier papers (Gore et al., 1979; 1984) an electrogoniometer for measuring hip movement was described, and measurement of normal hip movement was reported for both sexes over a wide age range. Against that background this paper describes the patterns of movement for a number of pathological conditions examined: the progression of osteo-arthrosis through four examples covering the range from early diagnosis to a severe case; bilateral Charnley arthroplasty; a left osteotomy coupled with a McKee total replacement of the right hip; and bilateral congenital dislocation of the hips.
