Abstract
The phrenic nerves supply the crural fibers on the ipsilateral side of the oesophageal hiatus. The right phrenic nerve once supplied also all crural fibers to the left of the hiatus, and aberration which causes failure to paralyze completely the left side of the diaphragm by left phrenicotomy. The occasional bundle from the left crus passing to the right side towards the vena caval opening (described by Low [1907]) is confirmed. Two such bundles grasping the left limb of the right crus, instead of 1 bundle, are recorded for the 1st time in 1 case. A narrow gap closed by connective tissue was noticed to the left side of the oesophagus in infants; it explains the occurrence of para-oesophageal hernia on the left side. Keywords
