Party Affiliation and International Opinions in Britain and France, 1947-1956

Abstract
In the theory of opinion formation, a central question is the role and effectiveness of political parties in shaping the attitudes of their adherents on current issues. The accumulation of data from public opinion surveys provides an opportunity to test various hypotheses about party influence. The authors of this article have attempted to do this for political parties in Britain and France over a period of a decade and for opinions on issues in the field of international relations.
