Abstract
The fluorescent lifetimes of a number of europium chelates were determined in solution and as the solid at a number of temperatures and a range of wavelengths of the fluorescent emission. They are compared with the lifetimes of europium fluorescence in other compounds and it is suggested that the variation in lifetime is a result of the ligand—Eu interaction and that discrepancies in the results of different workers on the same compound is related to the manner of preparation of the chelate. Keywords
