Abstract
We show how the corrections for strongly bound electrons are incorporated into the Thomas-Fermi energy functional, and derive for the density the analog of what is known as Scott's correction to the energy. The scaling properties of this energy functional supply a new, consistent derivation of the Scott term. Keywords
