Abstract
We have measured the temperature dependence of the thermal diffusion factor αT of argon and krypton isotopes from approximately 200 to 900 °K thereby extending experimental determinations from 250 to 300 ° higher than heretofore. Furthermore, we observed that αT for krypton at low temperatures was nearly twice as large as previously reported. The range of the available data for these species is now sufficiently extensive to provide a rather sensitive test of the intermolecular potential and consequently we fitted these data to empirical equations within the experimental uncertainties. Numerous intermolecular potentials were used to evaluate αT and comparison with the empirical equations resulted in the ``elimination'' of many of those proposed. Keywords
