Abstract
5-Fluorocytosine5-Fluorocytosine (Flucytosine; 5-FC) is a commercially available, synthetic antifungal agent. The drug has been of value in treatment of certain cases of visceral candidiasis, cryptococcal meningitis, chromomycosis and torulopsosis. Although current indications for 5-fluorocytosine used alone appear to be limited, the drug is of interest because of its relatively low toxicity, its excellent absorption from the gastrointestinal tract and its potential use in combination chemotherapy.SusceptibilityDifferent laboratories have disagreed substantially about how often one can expect a pretreatment isolate of candida or Torulopsis glabrata to be sensitive to 5-FC.30 31 32 33 34 35 36 This discrepancy appears to reflect the fact that drug-sensitive . . .Keywords
