Abstract
Implications of Allan's redefinition (1933) of the Awamoan Stage are assessed using stratigraphic trends in the lineages of Haeuslerella pukeuriensis Parr and Globigerinoides trilobus trilobus (Reuss) observed in the section at “Old Rifle Butts”, Oamaru. The redefinition lowers the base of the stage as set by Thomson (1916), but complete overlap with Hutchinsoniancannot be shown. The highest unit at “Old Rifle Butts” (Allan's name bearer) may be lower than that implied in Thomson's usage of Awamoan. The lowest formation in the Altonian name bearer (Clifden Limestone above Lower Limestone Member, Clifden) is probably equivalent to Awamoan of Allan (1933) and to Hutchinsonian (part) and Awamoan of Thomson (1916).Keywords
