Abstract
We present a theoretical study of the effects of widely separated solitons on the optical-absorption spectra of trans-polyacetylene . We show that the interband optical absorption is the same as with no solitons present minus a small correction proportional to the soliton density. We also consider the resonant Raman scattering in the presence of solitons.
