The Transoral Reduction of Mandibular Fractures

Abstract
Mandibular fractions that require open reduction may be reduced via a transoral approach, which avoids external skin incision. Of 321 fractures treated by the Otolaryngology Service at the University of Minnesota Hospitals, 30 were reduced by the transoral route. There was no greater incidence of complications by this approach and this method had the advantage of better cosmesis and decreased operating time. These advantages, coupled with the low incidence of complications, leads us to believe that this approach should have wider application.
